Brooding
When chicks are removed from the hatcher they should be put in a warm and dry area (brooder) of 0.2m2 per chick. Brooder boxes for chicks 1 to 4 days old are typically about 0.35m high and 1.5m x 1.5m. The brooder should have an warm section (35°C) and a non heated section for exercise. Fresh feed and water should be freely available and partially in the heated area. After 4 days in the brooder the chicks should be put outside in the direct sun during the day. It is absolutely amazing to see the effect that this has on the chicks.
